I looked at this blog the other day and was shocked to see that the last time I posted was when Asher was one month old - how did I let so much time escape without putting any pictures or updates out there? In my defense, life has been pretty busy as I try to figure out how to balance working from home, caring for Asher, maintaining some sense of order and cleanliness in our house, spending time with Mark every once in a while, and many other things that are too mundane to list but seem to suck the minutes out of my days. On top of that, we've also traveled quite a bit and hosted visitors. In the last few months, Asher has been on three different trips requiring plane travel. If you count airport layovers, he's already been to seven states and D.C., and we have plans to hit a couple more states in a few weeks.
Anyway, enough with the excuses of busyness. The bottom line is that I have been neglectful, so my goal for the next week is to catch up on posting pictures and stories we have accumulated since I last posted toward the beginning of March. In the longer term, I will try to be better about at least posting pictures and brief stories, though I also have a running list of topics I'd like to explore through writing if I can find the time. First things first, though. Instead of one long update, I'll post separately for each month, though I will include a recent picture of Asher in all of the updates to avoid falling dramatically behind again.
So, we'll start with March. One of the highlights of the month was a visit from my sister, Molly, and my cousin, Amy, who came to meet Asher and also to celebrate my 30th birthday. Asher was at a good age for company, as he was just starting to smile and be more interactive. Molly immediately fell in love with him, as you'll see in the pictures below of the two of them snuggling. The weather was unseasonably gorgeous - 70 degrees and sunny, which broke records for March in Maine - so we were able to take long walks on the beach, wander around Dock Square in Kennebunkport and even have a lobster feast on our three-season porch. Molly and Amy treated me to a girls' night out for my birthday, though as a nursing mother with a six-week-old baby at home, I wasn't able to get too wild and crazy. Amy got into the Maine spirit by buying Asher a lobster-print sunhat, which you will see in the pictures below as well as in many pictures to come as it has become a staple of Asher's spring/summer wardrobe (thanks, Amy!).
Otherwise, March was a fairly low-key month for us. Mark and I celebrated my actual birthday with a relatively quiet dinner (as quiet as anything gets when there's a newborn involved), Asher continued to grow and change (as you'll see in the pictures over the posts to come) and we prepared ourselves for our big April trip to Ohio (stay tuned for pictures from that one).
